My Family Can Be Together Forever

"The divine plan of happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave. Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return tor the presence of God and for families to be united eternally."

Scripture

D&C 132:46
46- And verily, verily, I say unto you, that whatsoever you seal on earth shall be sealed in heaven; and whatsoever you bind on earth, in my name and by my word, saith the Lord, it shall be eternally bound in the heavens.

Hymn

I Love to See the Temple - Primary Song #95
 1. I love to see the temple. I'm going there some-day.
To feel the Holy Spirit, To listen and to pray.
For the temple is a house of God, A place of love and beauty.
I'll prepare myself while I am young; This is my sacred duty.
2.  I love to see the temple. I'll go in-side some-day.
I'll cov'nant with my Father; I'll promise to obey.
For the temple is a holy place Where we are sealed todgether.
As a child of God, I've learned this truth; A fam'ly is forever.

Lesson

1. Ask your family, “What is the most important organization on the earth?” (Our family!)
Explain that President Gordon B. Hinckley stated: “I believe the family to be the basic and most important unit of society” (Ensign, August 1992, 5).

2. Hold up the photos of each family member or the cut-outs. (Younger children may enjoy coloring the black and white cut-outs.) Explain that Heavenly Father loves us so much that He has allowed us to live together in this life as families.
a. Put the photos/cut-outs in the envelope.

3. Explain to your children that “Someday every member of our family will die  and we will not be able to live together as a family in the next life unless we are sealed together.” Shake the envelope and allow the cut-outs/photos to fall to the floor.

4. Show a picture of the temple and explain that because Heavenly Father wants families to be together forever He has special buildings called temples where families can be sealed together.

5. Put the family cut-outs back into the envelope, lick the seal and close it. Shake the envelope to show that none of the cut-outs will fall out. Explain that when we are sealed in the temple and keep the commandments, Heavenly Father has promised us that we can all be together forever.

6. Discuss as a family some of the things all family members must do to allow them to be sealed in the temple and to continue to qualify for those blessings:
a. Pray
b. Attend church
c. Live the Word of Wisdom
d. Pay a full tithing
e. Follow the prophet
f. Be morally clean

7. You may wish to share the following story: Sacred Place

Express your love for your family and testify how important it is for all family members to keep the commandments so that all may be able to be together as a family in the celestial kingdom.

Treat

Healthy and Handy

The favorite contractor of preschoolers everywhere is taking his toolbox to prime time — 7 p.m. — on October 11. In "Handy Manny Big Construction Job," Manny and his hardware helpers leave town for a job, where they meet two new tools of the trade: a jackhammer and a power drill. Gear up your family for the show with this healthy snack, a frozen yogurt version of Stretch, the measuring tape.
Ingredients
  • Single-serving cup of yogurt (pink colors look best)
  • Red fruit leather
  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Mini marshmallows
Instructions
  1. For each pop, use a black ballpoint pen to make tape measure marks on the top two-thirds of a wooden craft spoon. Be careful to write only on the part of the stick that will be above the yogurt.
  2. Remove the foil cover from a single-serving cup of yogurt. Create Stretch's face on the yogurt with a small square of red fruit leather for his forehead, and two mini chocolate chips pressed into two mini marshmallows for eyes. Insert the wooden spoon into the yogurt below the eyes.
  3. Cover the yogurt cup with aluminum foil and let it freeze overnight. When you're ready to eat, slide the frozen yogurt out of the container. For a fancier presentation, wrap finished pops in waxed paper and set them on a plate.
