My Body is Sacred

"In the premortal realm, spirit sons and daughters knew and worshiped God as their Eternal Father and accepted His plan by which His children could obtain a physical body and gain earthly experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize his or her divine density as an heir of eternal life."
-The Family: A Proclamation To The World

Scripture

13th Article of Faith
13- We believe in being honest, true, chase, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul-We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and we hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

Hymn

The Lord Gave Me a Temple - Primary Song #153

1. The Lord gave me a temple to live within on earth.
Once in Heaven I was spirit, but I left my home at birth.
I’ll make my temple brighter; I’ll keep my spirit free.
My body is the temple my Father gave to me.

2. If I keep my body clean and pure and habit-free,
I may in Father’s temple claim blessings promised me.
On resurrection morning, I’ll take my body bright
And in celestial glory forever live in light.

Lesson

1.When we came to earth we received a body. Heavenly Father has told us that our bodies are sacred. In fact, Heavenly Father has said that our bodies are like a temple.

(Show a picture of your Nearest temple. To find yours, go here.)

2. Ask your children:
-What is a Temple like? (beautiful, strong)

-Is there any trash or garbage outside of the Temple? Is the grass too long?
(Explain to children that workers make sure the Temple is beautiful on the outside.)

- (Tell the children that the inside of a Temple is also kept perfectly clean, beautiful and pure). Because the Temple is clean inside and out, it is a place where we can easily feel the Holy Ghost.

3.  When we build Temples we make sure to build the foundation (or bottom layer) of the Temple strong so that it won't fall.  The Salt Lake Temple was built over 100 years ago, but because the foundation was built strong and sturdy, church members can still receive Temple blessings inside.

We can also build as strong foundation in our own lives to help us prepare to go inside the Temple someday and claim the blessing of sacred Temple ordinances.

4.  Pring the following two pages on card stock. Cut out building blocks and have the children build the foundation of the temple as you discuss each concept.

5.  We can make our body like a Temple by keeping it clean inside and out.

Ask your children what we can do to keep our insides clean.

Keeping our INSIDES clean:
- Watch only clean movies, television programs, and videos
- Look at and read only wholesome books and magazines.
- Listen to uplifting music.
- Keep my body sacred and private.
- Think pure thoughts.
- Do not date until age sixteen.
- Choose good friends.

Ask your children what we can do to keep our outsides clean.

Keeping our OUTSIDES clean:
- Dress Modestly.
- Use clean words.
- Obey the Word of Wisdom.
- Eat good foods and Exercise.
- Be clean by showering regularly, brushing teeth and combing hair.

Bear your testimony about respecting our bodies and treating them like a Temple.  Share blessings you have received by doing so in your youth.

Treat

Pudding Cones

For a giggle-inducing activity at their first meeting last year, the girls of Brownie Troop 155 in Marietta, Ohio, passed around the pudding. Prepping this dessert is all about cooperation, teamwork, and sharing. "There were 10 scouts at the meeting and only two bags of pudding," says troop leader Bridget Buffington. "So each girl would shake the bag, then pass it on. They had a great time working together."
Ingredients
  • 1 box of your favorite instant pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • Ice-cream cones
  • Sprinkles
Instructions
  1. Empty the pudding mix into a quart-size ziplock bag and pour in the milk. Seal the bag, then squeeze, knead, and shake vigorously for 8 to 10 minutes or until the contents are thickened.
  2. Place the bag in the refrigerator to set. To serve, cut off one corner of the bag and squeeze the pudding into ice-cream cones. Don't forget to top with sprinkles.
